Short Story: Robot Heart

The night falls as lay down in the bed, and you at the other side falling asleep, I came to you as I place my head in your chest, hearing the beat of your heart. It’s not the same sound as I use to hear, but I still want to hear you alive. Quickly I fell asleep as well.

“You’re a mirror, that reflects everything. You just need time to rest and make something new, this is hard to hear but I replace it with anew. Don’t be mad” You hear a sound so muffled, but you can still understand it. “You’ll be safe, I promise you. I will never leave you.”

You heard a phone ring, you try to grab it but someone stopped you. “I’ll pick this up, just rest, ok?”. The person picked it up and talked, you tried to listen, but you fell asleep again and the person that was talking says goodbye, “I’m going now, stay rested, bye”.

As you drift in your sleep, you dreamed of going out again. You want to see the world around you. Now that you dreamed again, you want to control it, and you did. All the things you see around you can be touched, all the people around you can interact. It felt so real, yet you still question yourself about it.

You saw a familiar face, approached, and started to talk. You think you know that person but can't remember. You got confused and panicked. You run like there was no tomorrow…

For you, there isn’t.
